Rhythm of Life
This morning we had decided on a late start to wait for warmer temperatures, and this turned out to be a good plan as we woke to find we both had flat back tyres. We pissed around for an hour fixing those, taking the opportunity to replace Plum's broken spoke while the wheel as off, and it was almost 10:30 before we turned a crank.
There is a point on these multi-day rides where I start to find my rhythm and I think, for this trip, it was today. It doesn't get any easier....I just become accustomed to it being hard. It was a short day (46 miles) but with plenty of climbing, including a vicious 14 per center at the very end. I put some music on, stopped counting the passing miles and just enjoyed the day. The scenery is always nice (and sometimes gorgeous), the roads continue to be empty and that big blue sky just goes on and on.
We are staying in Bejar, an unremarkable town, apart from being perched half a mile up a vertical cliff face from the road by which we approached. We have a 2-bedroom apartment for the night and I had a cunning plan to shop and knock up some pasta for dinner. Unfortunately it is a local public holiday here so the shops are all shut. We found a gas station that was open for cold isotonic drink and we are demolishing that while we decide what to do for calories later.
Tomorrow we have a choice of routes and are considering something we have never tried before. Intriguing isn't it?
