Now That's What I Call Music Vol III

PRICE TAG
Our hotel was fabulous...packed full of character.  Our room was very spacious with lots of period features but still functional as a hotel room and the owner was very attentive.  Breakfast was typically Spanish but the room was beautifully dressed and the service was impeccable.

I have recently concluded the hotel bookings for a UK tour next year;  the average room price was £140 and there is a very ordinary hotel on the north Scottish coast that was £240 a room.  The price for our bit of Spanish luxury?  65 quid!

I GOTTA GET DRUNK
We ventured out to a recommended restaurant which, naturally, was closed at 7pm.  We went to a nearby locals bar for a couple of tintos then crashed the restaurant as it reopened at 8pm, to be told that food wouldn't be available for another half an hour so we had another glass.  I'm not sure how much more of this my liver can take.

EYE OF THE TIGER
Today was to be our 2nd hilliest and we set out with legs still sore from yesterday.  We needn't have worried: the hills came easy, the scenery was lovely, the sun shone and we had the roads to ourselves.  At least, all of that was true until our mile 35 doughnut stop.  Our last 30 miles were on a more major highway and, although fairly quiet, we felt obliged to ride the hard shoulder.  This strip of tarmac is bordered to the left by the white line and a hideous rumble strip and to the right by a sheer drop into a ditch.  They obviously decided that would be too easy for cyclists so they placed a cat's eye every 20 metres slap in the middle.  For all I know the scenery was off the scale this afternoon...we were too busy staying alive to notice.

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD
As you plot our progress on the big map stuck to your fridge door you have probably noticed that ours is not a direct route across country.  Partly this is dictated by the need for towns with hotels but also we have deliberately padded the route to fill 2 weeks.  We are now in Ciudad Real at the start of one of our bigger detours with about 480 miles on the clock.

WE WILL WOK YOU
As regular readers will know we are suckers for a Chinese buffet and tonight we have an appointment with one known as the Wok Buffet.  Naturally it doesn't open until.8:30 but at least we will be eating by 8:31.
