Now That's What I Call Music Vol II

This is a late report, resulting from being in the absolute middle of nowhere with little interweb connectivity.  The advantage of the delay is that I have had time to think up twaddle to write about.  You may have to wait a while for photos as my current internet connection is heavily based on empty tin cans, pieces of string and smoke signals.

Theme From Trumpton

For my international readership, Trumpton is a 1960s childrens tv show. We are now 700+ miles from the coast and firmly in Trump territory; we meet people who know little about the outside world and care less.  In Grangeville we spoke to the maid..... a lady in her 50s who had only ever once been outside Idaho and then only to neighbouring Oregon.  People here think Trump is doing a good job and will happily shoot you if you disagree.

Yesterday we left Grangeville through huge cornfields before plunging down into the Nez Perce Indian reservation.  From there we tracked up the Clearwater River to Lowell (population 23).

Hey Girl Dont Bother Me

Last night we stayed in two places - a small motel/restaurant and a rafting centre just down the road.  We stayed in the rafting centre and had a nice evening with a makeshift bbq.  All was great apart from the women in a nearby room.  We had barely noticed her until one of our group passed her and she screamed "stop bothering me" and ran into her room.  Later she announced that if we continued to bother her she was going to call the police.  The resort manager came out and spoke to us and we explained that she was a nutter.  We have no idea what was going on in her head but we were a bit intimidated by the thought that we could be so easily tarred as 'nonces'.

Friday's On My Mind

Today we continued to ride up the Clearwater River valley.  66 miles of very gently uphill.  The only challenge was the major roadworks with a mix of spanking new tarmac,  roads with the surface stripped and stretches where we had to throw the bikes into the back of a pilot car and be driven through single lane sections.

We ended up In Lochsa Lodge, the only accommodation  between last night's place and Missoula where we will spend Friday night.

I am looking forward to Missoula, the first city since we left Eugene and the base for the Adventure Cyling Association whose route ee are following.
