The Winner Takes It All

My triumphs as a cyclist don't amount to a whole lot.  I have a small trophy from winning a cycling proficiency contest in my home town in 1971 and a crappy plastic medal from last year's 'Ventoux 3-ways'.  So imagine my delight when I opened e-mail this morning to find that I have been selected from 500 applicants to be a 'Brand Ambassador' for Oweyo, a large german sportswear manufacturer.

The title comes with shitloads of free cycling clothing but, since I already have shitloads of paid-for cycling clothing, this is of marginal value.  I imagine there will be a sash and full diplomatic immunity and I am really looking forward to the chocolates at the ambassadorial parties.  No doubt I will find out more in the coming weeks but the idea that my cycling resume has stacked up favourably against applications from teenage club racing snakes pleases me more than you can know.

Anyway, cycling to Perth.  Today was 83 miles on a road (actually 2 roads, there was another junction) so quiet that there were probably only about a dozen vehicles per hour.  The drivers continue to show great consideration, passing with as much clearance as conditions permit, and usually with a cheery wave or toot of the horn.

We are taking a detour off Highway 1, via the coastal community of Streaky Bay where we are now relaxing outside our ocean front cabin with a glass of iced tea.  The riding was easy today, with little wind and a high in the mid 30s but which felt a lot less.

Right next to our cabin is a communal bbq  area so we have purchased sweet corn, potato salad and steaks the size of baseball gloves , which we will wash down with a nice elderflower presse.

Today we added just one Goanna and an unidentified grey bird to our zoo.
