He's Back (The man behind the mask)
I wish I was a surgical mask salesman! For the airlines the coronavirus must be a bit of a mixed blessing. On the one hand passenger numbers are way down.....but on the other hand they can now use ugly/old cabin crew since nobody can really see what they look like with their masks on.
So far we have made it to Singapore......one of the countries most severely impacted by the virus. The last half hour of the flight was consumed by the announcenent covering whether you would be allowed to enter Singapore and the provisions for sending you to prison if you fail to declare a bit of a sore throat. In the airport terminal is a team armed with what look like guns but I think are thermometers. Backing up this team is another with actual guns in case anyone doesn't want their temperature taken.
We are hiding in a corner of the lounge which we calculate is outside coughing range of all other travellers. We have masks (well....I do) and hand sanitiser. We have found that hand sanitiser and tonic with ice and a slice is surprisingly delicious.
In a couple of hours we will board another plane for the short TEN HOUR hop to Christchurch. After that we have to put our bikes together and cycle 25 miles up a hill before we can have a nap. Bugger.
