Now That's What I Call Music III

Forgive me father, it is 2 days since my last confession.

Let Down

Radiohead in case you are interested.

We went to the rodeo and it was pants.  To be fair, we missed the start by 2 hours because we were misimformed about the timetable but those who did get there on time also thought it was shite.  At least we didn't pay $8 for the privilege.  I recall gymkhanas from my youth that were considerably more exciting.

To cheer ourselves up we went to the bar.  This place had been recommended by the same person who told us the wrong time for the rodeo so hopes weren't high.  In fact it was a great place with a good atmosphere ..... the food was so-so but the beer was cheap and it seemed like everyone else paid for it.  Even the barman bought us a round!!!  It is possible that we had one more beer than  was medically recommended but what the heck.

8 Miles

Yesterday was a shortish day but with a chunky 8 mile climb to Chief Joseph Pass.  At 7241 feet it was the highest point yet with stunning views.  It also marks the Continental Divide......from now on all our bodily excretions will follow us east instead of draining back west into the Specific.

Bang Bang

Last night we stayed in Wisdom, MT (population 119).  It was a small family run motel but John and I had a large cabin complete with kitchen so we went all domesticated.  We went to the shop and, amazingly, between the fishing tackle, beer and animal feed we found the makings of a spag bol.

As we were eating the meal (pretty damn good IMHO) there was a loud but slightly muffled bang.  It sounded like someone firing a gun just the other side of our kitchen.  We went outside to check but could find nothing.  Half an hour later there was a second bang and then 2 or 3 more as the evening progressed.  As we were going to bed we remembered that we had put a 6-pack of soda in the freezer!!!!!  Messy doesn't begin to describe the carnage.

Today we have continued across the high plains, cruising at about 6000 feet with a couple of decent passes at around 7000 feet.  In the distance we have snow capped mountains and excitement for the national.parks of Yellowstone and Grand Teton is growing.
