Fun Fun Fun
After two pretty tough days we needed a break and boy did we get one! Dictated by the availability of accommodation we only had 65 miles to do, so an easier day was on the cards abyway, but we picked up a glorious tailwind.
To make things even better we had a few gentle hills and bends to break up the monotony and we flew. There was even a junction to cope with......our first in about 3 days.
We averaged over 16 mph and were checked in and sipping a latte by 1pm.
As we rode into town we met our first touring cyclists - 2 Japanese guys heading the other way. They are doing much shorter days than us so we sneered at them and mentioned the war. Best of all.....they have been enduring headwinds across the Nullarbor and we pray that the winds dont change.
We are in Wudinna, one of the small communities that have grown up around a chuffing great silo. It has a few houses, a couple of shops and the hotel/pub/bottle shop in which we are staying. Passing through the town are Highway 1, the railway and the high pressure water pipe that has been our companion for over 300 miles now. Yesterday we had a brainwave and today, rather than carrying gallons of water, we just have an electric drill. Whenever we are thirsty we just tap the pipe then plug the hole with chewing gum.
It was a quiet day for roadkill with just one fox and a few hundred thousand kangaroos. Neil spotted a herd of two-legged deer that he refuses to acknowledge might have been emus.
really enjoying following you're exploits...keep the commentary coming and I'll see Neil for the café-run on Sunday................wont I? - Scott
