Madness
My next trip is a week of cycling in Provence with a group of friends. 'Very lovely' I hear you say and, yes, it should be. However, as part of the trip we intend to have a crack at becoming members of the Club des Cinglés du Mont Ventoux (The club for the madmen/nutters/screwballs of the windy mountain). Membership is terribly easy to obtain - you just give a Frenchie 20 Euros and then prove that you have cycled up Mt Ventoux by all three routes in a day. I have already done the 20 Euro bit and it was a piece of cake. We will start and end in Bedoin and must cycle 136km with 4443 metres of vertical climb. In cycling parlance this is known as 'a f%*ing lot'. A number of us will certainly make it and a couple have already ruled themselves out of the attempt, leaving a small middle group that includes me. Although I have done plenty of cycling this year, hills have been notably absent and as for mountains.......bugger.
