Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Last night we stayed in the Commonwealth Hotel in Newcastle and I would struggle to recall any other place I have stayed that has offered such a genuine and warm welcome.  Everyone, both staff and customers, bent over backwards to make us feel at home and it was all rather lovely.  The fact that both barmaids gave us a free round of drinks has nothing to do with it!!

Today we were on a mission to get to Sydney for many reasons:

1/ it marks the 1/3 point of the trip
2/ we are having a rest day there and we REALLY need a rest day
3/ we are staying with friends - Lynn is a regular BA  customer who lives in Manly, close to the harbour entrance, and has offered to put us up for 2 nights

We knocked down the first 60 miles in some style despite some nasty little hills, then boarded the splendid ferry to Palm Beach and did the last 20 in considerably less style.

We have now had recovery drink and recovery food, chatted about  classic cars with Lynn's husband (he is President of the Ozzie Morgan Owners Club), and are now snuggled down in a guest room of their elegant home (though our presence has sibtracted somewhat from the elegence!).

Tomorrow a real treat is in store.....watch this space.
